Multidisciplinary Team

We are a dedicated multidisciplinary team of over 50 passionate engineering students from IIT Mandi, committed to enhancing Mars exploration technology. Operating under The Robotronics Club, our team embodies the rich tradition of Indian engineering innovation with specialized roles in mechanical, electrical, software, and science subsystems.
02

Technical Excellence

We design and build complete Mars rovers from scratch, integrating mechanical engineering (custom chassis, robotic arms), electrical systems (power management, sensor integration), advanced software (autonomous navigation, AI/ML), and life sciences (soil analysis, spectroscopy). Our iterative development process ensures continuous improvement.
03

Iterative Growth (2022–2025)

Transitioned from an initial 6-wheeled prototype to a four-wheeled rocker differential rover with improved stability. Introduced swerve drive and new robotic arm in 2024; while innovative, these were not fault tolerant and impacted performance, leading to a renewed emphasis on resilience. 2025 development emphasized CAN bus communication (replacing I2C), fault-tolerant chassis design, and integration testing guided by previous judge feedback.
04

Competition Performance

URC 2024: Achieved a total score of 67.7/100, just below the finalist cutoff of 84 points. Strong marks in Core Rover (16.7/21) and Science (14/16) showed technical capability. Judges praised the well-organized report and steady progress but noted missing video captions, limited system demonstrations, and the absence of arm manipulation testing.

URC 2025: Scored 60.8/100, with a higher cutoff of 86.9 points due to record competition. Strategic shift from risky innovation to robustness and reliability. Progress included successful rover teleoperation, setup of a robotic arm control pipeline, and integration of modular hardware/software subsystems. Judges highlighted the need for stronger system integration, readiness testing in challenging conditions, and clear budgets in USD with Gantt chart tracking.

Building on past lessons, Team Deimos is better prepared than ever for future competitions with mechanical upgrades, electrical robustness, autonomy advances, and enhanced science mission capabilities.
